Abstract:

The compatibilization effect of a hyperbranched poly(amide-ester) (HBP) on poly(acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene)/poly(vinylchloride) (ABS/PVC) blends was examined. The effects of the amounts of HBP on mechanical properties of ABS/PVC (80/20, mass ratio) blends were investigated. The results showed that a small quantity of HBP had a significant effect on mechanical properties and can improve the compatibility of the ABS/PVC blends; the tensile strength of the ABS/PVC (80/20) blends reached to a maximum value when HBP content increased to 2 phr and then dropped quickly by adding more HBP, the impact strength of the ABS/PVC (80/20) blend decreased with incorporation of HBP, the higher HBP added, the greater impact strength of ABS/PVC blend decreased. The scanning electron microscopy indicated that the surfaces of ABS/PVC blends were mainly composed of separate tiny droplets and some cavities. When HBP was introduced into ABS/PVC (80/20) blends, the asperity of the surface decreased, and shear band began to form either partially or completely. DSC Analysis also confirmed that HBP could improve the compatibility of the ABS/PVC blends.

Abstract:

Polypropylene is a thermoplastic POLYMER which is not a paintable POLYMER. Some intrinsic characteristics such as hydrophobicity, non polar structure, high crystallinity and steric orderness make it difficult for a POLYMERic coating to adhere on the polypropylene surface. To overcome such disadvantage, a rout was designed in which nano organic particles based on polyesteramide and nano inorganic particles (nanoclay) were used to modify polypropylene. Dendritic POLYMERs possess a micellar core-shell spherical structure that are covalently bonded together and are able to be used as dispersing agent for nanoclay in POLYMERic matrices. The obtained samples underwent various experiments to assess the modification process and its effect on the physical, mechanical and structural properties. Thermal, morphological and rheometrical experiments revealed that different structures with intercalate and exfoliated order have been obtained. Mechanical tests also declared that the modification process has been useful. Finally measurements of contact angle cleared that in samples containing inorganic and organic nano particles, paintability has been improved.

Abstract:

Hyperbranched poly (amide-ester) (HBP) has a compact, highly branched, threedimensional structure, which has a high density of functional end groups and inherently low viscosity. The HBP additives are able to behave as lubricants during processing and as compatibilizing agents in the blend. In this work, polypropylene/poly(vinyl chloride)/hyperbranched poly(amide-ester) (PP/PVC/HBP) blends were prepared by melt mixing; the PP/PVC (80/20 mass ratio) blends were investigated in detail. Mechanical and rheological properties were measured. The tensile strength of the blends reached the maximum value when the content of hyperbranched poly (amide-ester) was 3 phr; the impact strength of the blends was small changed as that of pure PP/PVC. The viscosity of the PP/PVC/HBP blends was higher than that of pure PP/PVC blends, whereas the viscosity of the PP/PVC/HBP blends dropped with added more HBP. The scanning electron microscopy (SEM) showed that a two-phase morphology was characteristic of blends and dual-continuous morphology of PP/PVC/HBP (80/20/3) blend. With more or less HBP, the PVC spherical droplets of the minor phase dispersed in a PP continuous matrix phase, whereas there was a large difference between/among the minor-phase particle size. The SEM photos also confirmed that HBP could enhance the adhesion at the interface and reduce the phase separation of PP/PVC blend. The tensile strength of blends was in accord with morphology and DSC of blends.

Abstract:

In this investigation, a polyester-amide hyperbranched POLYMER possessing 10 hydroxyl end-groups was modified by 3-mercaptopropyle tri-methoxy silane through the well-known sol-gel chemistry. The modification process was carried out using two different independent variables, i.e. pH and duration of the reactions, at two and 4 various levels, respectively. The former's levels were 4.5 and 7 and the latter's levels were 0.5, 2, 8 and 24 hrs. To characterize the obtained products, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) and Thermo-gravimetric analysis (TGA) were exploited. The outcomes demonstrated that the replacement of hydroxyl end-groups by mercapto functionalities had already happened. The samples at neutral pH, due to lower speed of hydrolysis reactions and higher speed of condensation ones, showed higher conversions. Among the assessed samples, the one at neutral pH and 8 hours of reaction duration, owed the maximum efficacy. Also, it was concluded that the longer the reaction duration, the higher the modification progress is obtained at both pH levels. Eventually, the optimum conditions for various kinds of modification levels are proposed.

Abstract:

DURING THE LAST DECADE, HYPERBRANCHED POLYMERS HAVE BECOME THE FOCUS OF INTENSE INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH. IN THIS STUDY, THE INFLUENCE OF A POLYESTER-AMIDE BASED HYPERBRANCHED POLYMER WITH HYDROXYL END GROUP AND THEIR SATURATED FATTY ACID MODIFIED COUNTERPARTS ON THE CURING BEHAVIOR OF A LOW VISCOSITY UV CURABLE SYSTEM IS INVESTIGATED. DIFFERENT CONCENTRATIONS OF THE HYPERBRANCHED POLYMER AND THE MODIFIED ONE ARE USED IN THE FORMULATIONS. THE CURING BEHAVIOR IS PERUSED BY PHOTO-DSC ANALYSES. THE RESULTS SHOW THAT ADDITION OF THE HYPERBRANCHED POLYMER, EITHER AS NEAT OR MODIFIED HYPERBRANCHED POLYMER, IMPROVES THE FINAL CONVERSION COMPARED TO THE NEAT BLEND. IT IS ALSO CONCLUDED FROM THE OBTAINED PHOTO-DSC DATA THAT THE UNMODIFIED HYPERBRANCHED POLYMER CAUSES HIGHER CONVERSION IN COMPARISON WITH THE MODIFIED ONE.

Abstract:

In this research, hyperbranched polyamidoamine with amine end groups was reacted with glycidyl methacrylate to produce a hyperbranched POLYMER ended in acrylate functional units. Chemical structure and molecular weight of produced molecule were proved by FTIR, 1H NMR, and GPC analyses. Different amounts of yielded acrylate structure was added to coatings based on epoxy methacrylate to monitor the effect of POLYMER on adhesion properties of UV-cured coatings. The results of DMTA analysis revealed that Tg of samples containing hyperbranched POLYMER was 8 °C lower than that of blank sample, indicating flexibility of obtained coatings. Eventually, adhesion test manifested improvement in adhesion of coatings containing acrylate coatings, so that sample contained 10 wt.% of this additive showed 37% increase in adhesion level.
